Middleware between SAP and Local drives- PI??

Has anyone come across a middleware between SAP and local drives that is called PI? This service should detect changes when predetermined conditions are fullfilled (i.e. a new file has been added)and import the file/document to SAP.

Just for info if someone is looking for the same thing in future, I found out that this is the Process Integration module they were using, the same system that is called NetWeaver or XI and can also convert imported file from IDOCs to pain.001 i .e..
